The CHIHUAHUA Puppy Care

Recommendation

.- FOR SHOW PROSPECTS:  IF we need to know the adult  weight of the future adult Chihuahua, the best way is by weighing the pup at exactly 3 months, the three months weight is multiplied by two and that is your approximate weight of  your adult.

.- It is not recommended to take your puppy to the street, especially not to have contact with other dogs that are walked outside a lot until after they've completed their vaccination schedule.

.- A Kerschberger puppy will not be separated from the mother and its littermates before 7 weeks of age, this stage is very important for the psychological development of the puppy and the mother's emotional state.

.- A Kerschberger puppy will not leave here  until 12 weeks old,  as at 8 weeks it will receive a Parvo vaccine which takes 3-4 weeks to be effective.

.- Not all brands of food are recommended for puppies of this breed, as not all contributors of nutrients such as protein, vitamins and energy, which in the larger breeds no problem.   It is best to stick to the diets formulated for toy breeds.  Many are available nowadays.

.- Chihuahuas are vulnerable to cold, humidity or air currents, hence it is advisable to keep them away from all this.

.- The Chihuahua is not recommended for young children.  Kids should NOT be carrying the pup around simply because it can. The pup can become  frightened or get hurt and anti-social.   When I took in my Samanta at six months of age, she refused to be picked up by me for a long time.   She had come from a home with two 3 year old twin boys who dragged her around no doubt.    She is completely over it now, but it took time to build her trust.

.- A light weight Chihuahua puppy can get sick more easily and often not saved, if it has diarrhea it can become dehydrated easily and it is difficult to administer intravenous fluids in such a small pup.   I  recommend to always have Pedialyte on hand for that reason.  I also soak the kibble food of not only my German Shepherds but also my Chihuahuas so to ensure they stay hydrated.

.- This is even more serious when it is a Chihuahua puppy "mini" very small or better known as "bolcillo or  "tea cup" version of the breed", I recommend you see our article on this type of dog so you can be aware of the consequences of this type of line.
