Both Muña and Eiko have received the Degenerative Myelopathy certification from the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) the chances are slim that the pups will carry the DM gene or develop DM. Kerschberger is the FIRST and likely still one of few breeders in the USA to test their breeding stock for this horrific genetic and paralizing disease so to avoid this in future Kerschberger generations - 21% of tested dogs are AT RISK, which means 1 in 5 dogs born will likely develop DM. The cost of diagnosis is very high, and the onset can start as early as 7 years. No dog we know of has lived more than 16 months after initial symptoms!!!
