Frequently Asked Questions from Pup Buyers

I am looking for a pet quality dog. The German shepherd I have is 9 years and had a hip replacement at 18 months and a elbow replacement at 9 months. She also has chronic ear infections and allergies. I also have a Husky who is defect free, which are most huskies, but I feel that a German is the the dog of dogs and am looking for a place to get a puppy without al all the genetic defects. . My vet tells me that such a dog exists, so I would like an opinion. I will go to any state in the US to fine a healthy puppy.

Truly, the only way you can be sure of buying any dog of any breed without HD or ED is to buy a young dog and have it X-rayed.  Not a pup.

This way, you truly avoid the heartache and spent a little more upfront.  Buying any pup from I don't care which line, can produce an occasional HD or ED dog.  As much and as rigorous as the German Registry is about weeding out the HD and since two years now the ED as well, still it can happen, and you know all too well the picture in the end.  Devastating and Expensive.
On my pups, I do give a health hip guarantee for pups OVER $1,500.-- However, my pups usually start at $3,000 including shipping etc costs.  However, with your experience and knowledge, do you really want to go there again?    I've never been there, and am thankful, but I could never give up my dog IF I could help it.
For your girl I suggest you investigate the Gold Bead Implant procedure as well.  It works wonders for many dogs' ailments.  Its inexpensive and non invasive.   It did and it really  worked wonders for Zuni's old age arthritis.  He was treated a year ago now, so at the age of your girl.  Its a 'pain treatment' without the medication and no side effects.

I am interested in buying a German Shepard.  I would like to know more information on how this process works.  Also how much does the dogs cost and how are they delivered.

It's not complicated to purchase a dog or pup from me.  Once a family is interested in a particular breeding (pup) or young adult dog, I talk or write with them about the particulars of said dogs' character more in depth.  If its a pup they are interested in, I match the temperaments of the family and pup as best as possible.   Higher drive pups to go to active, sporting or working dog homes and such.  Mellower ones to more mature homes who don't run around as much.
At the time of the pups' reservation, a 20% deposit of the purchase price is appropriate after the pups are one week old.  If already born,  and doing well, then a client can submit the deposit without delay to reserve the pup.   Or if its a young adult or adult dog, the payment in full can be made and shipping will follow quite quickly thereafter.
Full payment is due 2 weeks before shipping the pup, which is around week six.
Delivery is done via the Airline Cargo departments of Delta, Continental, American Airline, Northwest & such which allow animal shipments.  It depends which city the client resides at.   They are shipped in an airline safe crate which allows the pup or dog to stand up and turn around easily.  Water is provided in plastic container and the airline personnel will add to it in between stops, if any.   All details are handled by me for shipment and co-ordinated to the most convenient flight route with the pup or dogs' well being kept in mind.
A pup from the  *M  litter with Utica is $3000.-- this includes shipping/handling/crate/health cert/full registration/tattoo/microchip and a replacement health guarantee for hips, if deficient.  The earliest pups are allowed to be shipped is at 8 weeks.  I need to be sure the pups is ready at that time before I ship though.         (* Pricing Varies depending on which combination is bred)

How do I get into learning search and rescue? Before I get a dog I will need to know this. Thank you.

Hi, you need to find a local SAR K9 group that is willing to take you in.
That is all there is to it ;)
All the best - Its a great and fulfilling 'hobby'!

I was reading your very impressive website. I have a question about work dogs, when you talk about working dogs, are you only talking about police work or does that include working dogs for the handicapped?

A working GSD is referred to as a police dog, narcotics, search and rescue, bomb, patrol.  Single or dual purpose.
A dog for the handicapped is a 'service dog' and fits an entire different set of parameters with a completely different evaluation.

I hope you can help assist me. I have a all black German Shepard he is over 1 years old.  He is a wonderful and beautiful but the only thing is he never has his ears up.  He looks more like  a lab.   He is 100% and I have all his paperwork.  One day he has both ears up and then they are down.  The next day one ear is up and then it is down.  Is there a surgery that can fix them?

I wouldn't recommend surgery though it does exists thru implants.   I think the chance of infection will always loom.    Love him the way he is!
